no it's not all safe. It is curtailed but the primary methods of oil driling can lead quite easily to another such disaster. Furthermore, the long term effects and damage will go on for years and years. Lives have been ruined. Careers destroyed. Tourism endangered. Economies shattered. The leak is under control finally, but it is far from over.

They have apparently stopped any more oil from coming out of the broken pipe in the Gulf of Mexico. They have also cleaned up a lot of the oil that was in the water. There is still oil that needs to be cleaned up in the water and on the beaches.
Some of the oil is now in little pieces that were created when chemicals were used to break it up. A lot of this broken oil up has gone to the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico which could be a very bad thing since it could kill anything that lives down there. Nobody is really saying. And nobody knows how dangerous these chemicals are.
The oil that has reached the beach could have gone deep into the sand so maybe it will be there a long time. Nobody has said. In Alaska, where a ship leaked a lot of oil in the 1980's, there is still oil in the rocks on the shore even though supposedly it has all been cleaned up.
Also, there are marshes and wetlands which protect the coast and are where important for the food chain. Little fish grow there and the bigger fish eat the little fish and even bigger fish eat them. Plus birds feed there. When you destroy the beginning part of the food chain, you hurt the entire chain. Nobody knows how bad things will be, and it is possible the plants and the little fish that live there will all die and the beginning of the food chain will be destroyed. Plus, the plants help protect the coast from hurricanes so this could be a problem.

Before you rush to criticise BP, I suggest you do some research on Union Carbide and then contrast and compare.

I have no idea what Union Carbide has to do with this. I know that there were other companies that were in charge of making the oil rig and platform, and they too deserve to be criticized, but I don't think Union Carbide had any role.
I don't only blame BP for this, but BP was ultimately in charge and they have a history of a lack of safety. Plus, BP's response has been slow, and it looks like doing things such as using dispersants to break up the oil and not accurately let people know how much oil was coming out were attempts to make things seem not as bad as they really were. But I also blame the government for being slow to respond as well.

I'm no oilman or even an environmentalist, but using dispersants was surely an essential part of the solution to the spill; are you suggesting that in the interests of transparency they shouldn't have been deployed ?

It may have been easier to clean up had they not used the dispersants. Hopefully, they made the right choice, but many don't think so. We shall see. And there appears to be a safety issue regarding the dispersants. I don't think I will be eating fish from the Gulf of Mexico any time soon.

Thank you for an intelligent response... just would like to add a little to it..... I live in Florida on the Gulf of Mexico..... to say BP's response has been slow is a huge understatement...... their response has been pathetic.... 1000's of business owners are about to go bankrupt because BP is not following through on their promise to "make things right"...... if you live in the Gulf area, like me, your are sick and tired of seeing BP say they will make things right…....they are not paying out the legitimate monetary loss claims submitted by businesses, both big and small..... These people are at this very moment about to loose everything they have and everything they have worked so hard for...... and BP's response to this is they are now hoping the Federal Government will step in and take over the processing of the claims..... BP does not give a shit about the "poor" people..... They only care if their profits continue to rise worldwide or not. This was abundantly obvious to those of us who live in the Gulf, when after a few weeks of the initial explosion that resulted in human loss and the tremendously yet unknown loss of wildlife, damage to the eco system, and financial disaster to the Gulf businesses……some of the executives of BP went on a sailing trip because they were stressed and needed a vacation away from the problem of the disaster (their words). FUCK BP!!!!!

Well said and BP has tried to downplay the extent of oil leaking and the damage on broadcast TV others along the gulf know perfectly well what a huge mess still remains. BP is trying to cover their ass so that they don't lose American Customers. It was their total neglect that created the mess and there will be damage for many years to come.....Get mad America and the World this will effect all.

what are you talking about, "total neglect" . How do you know that? The investigation is still undergoing. The facts are that some kind of mechanical failure caused an explosion and 11 people died. How can you be so sure its neglect? just because it's a horrible accident and you need someone to blame? you think BP needed this? their safety record was not spectacular, but it was right in line with the rest of the industry. yes, its a terrible tragedy, and we need to ensure it never happens again, but don't go around throwing too many stones, unless you are going to sell your car and turn your lights out..

I agree BP could not have magically foreseen this happening.... but possibly the "total neglect" is that since the initial explosion..... There has been very, very, very little to.... in BP's own words "make this right"..... I live here on the Gulf, I see the results of the disaster every single day.... and I along with everyone else who lives here on the Gulf see every day that BP is doing nothing for the people or businesses here. As an example they hire people to "inspect and clean the beaches"..... But what just about nobody knows is the salary BP pays to this person... BP then turns around and charges the Federal Government twice that amount. So in other words... BP is getting paid by the government to "inspect and clean" the beaches..... But again if you live here...... you would see the people who are hired to do this "inspection and cleaning” are a joke.... NOTHING IS GETTING DONE..... As a matter of fact I personally went to a BP meeting with local businesses. The meeting lasted approximately 3 hours.... because of the questions and frustrations from the public. .... we left from the meeting knowing exactly what BP's plan for cleanup and restitution was.... and that was ....we knew nothing more than when we first got there….. They talked and talked and threw around these really cool sounding catch phrases....but nothing was actually said. I along with thousands and thousands of other people who live here in the Gulf, know exactly what BP is doing to “make this right”….. And the answer is…..they are doing next to nothing…… BP does not care about the people that have been devastated by this disaster. Again….they only care if their world wide profits go up or not…they only care if their CEO’s and executives will get their 6-8 figure bonuses this year. THAT IS THE ONLY THING THEY ARE CONCERNED ABOUT.

Agreed!! It was in fact BP's decision not to replace and maintain certain equipment is why it happened in the first place. Unfortunately our government inspectors were in bed (so to speak) with many of the oil companies and so things were let slip and ignored. BP's cheap ass decisions have cost many and who really knows how much devastation environmentally over time. BP has also been very deceptive about revealing the truth through all this. I am glad that they are replacing the arrogant CEO with an American which I am sure is a strategy to get back in with the Americans good graces.

Hey, it can't all happen overnight. BP have already paid out $308million to businesses, fishermen etc which isn't bad going in less than 4 months. And if people weren't making fraudulent claims leading to a longer verification process, even more would have been paid. There is so much jingoism going on with this issue. And don't forget, a strong BP is essential for millions of US pensioners.

Since you are so concerned, you should have researched it rather than make off the cuff comments. Far fewer marine life died this event than in Prince William Sound. The media overreacts as usual. And, this is not the worst petrochemical mishap in the USA or the world. Scroll up and you will see.

actually yes i have......... I ride my bicycle to and from work almost everday. (weather permitting) . I also ride my bicycle to the grocery store when I only have to get a few small items. When its needed to drive a car, we try to car pool and run our errands at the same time... and I am not the only one who does this, there are many people who are trying to help reduce oil, fule usage and consumption.... but sadly there are many, many more who could also do this... it does take a little adjusting to your lifestyle, but the benefits (saving money, better health, helping reduce our "foot print") greatly out weigh the image of riding around in a big SUV to go to McDonalds or something like that. I guess the question is...... are YOU doing anything to help?

I am not feeling sorry for myself, as you think. I am just telling you what the story is down here. If you don't like it, or, your would much rather complain about the Obama policy then do something yourself -- it is far too easy to complain than to compliment or do something about your environ. Suggest, perhaps, you stop driving your vehicle, or stop wearing synthetic clothing, or stop using home cleaners, or stop watering your lawn, or stop cutting your lawn, or stop using your computer. All these have a petrochemical base or use our natural resources. Oh, sorry, you cannot live without it. Then, stop complaining.

The spill was devastating and the extent of long term damage will not be known for a long time. There are many lies on the news and it is not "fixed" and won't be for a very long time. BP made some cheap bad judgement calls and 11 people lost their lives on top of the huge amount of oil that was dumped into the ocean. In time we will see what other kinds of natural disasters can come from this.

As to your point about spending a lot of time here, that is true on some days, but people surf the net and blog and stuff all of the time too. And what about everyone twittering and texting every 5 seconds? I did sort of do that when I posted I was hungry a few days ago, but at least a host invited me to eat her. You can't get that in real life too often, lol.

No, I am one of those guys that you become friends with and I stop entering video, and then you get annoyed with me that I visited someone else, lol. But if I go video, it is for a show most of the time so I am probably not going to ask for that from a friend unless she is too hot to resist. Still, I do enter video with friends sometimes and help them out in other ways. Plus, unlike a lot of guys from what I here, if you tell me you are in video, I don't buzz you 100 times, lol. I was a heavy smoker (2-3 packs a day) and I quit smoking for good when I decided it was bad for my health. It s been 12 years now since I last smoked my last cigarrette. Yes, I dont know you either and I have no intentions of offending anyone, but there is a good solution to camming: Cut your cable/dsl subscription. I dont know if your work depends on internet connection, but if you are normal user and you need internet you can always go to your local library or some place where wi-fi is free, but there is always people watching you. Minimize your internet usage to just the necessity. Forget all the chatting and friends. You do this for 2 years and you will forget about camming, however I dont think your addiction is simply camming. I think you built a social life around it and made camming a social need instead of just doing it as a type of ocassional diversion. I would join clubs or groups where there is people that share some sort of passion for certain sport, music, community help. There is life outside. Well, first you must understand and accept that, the sexual nature of a man, which is biologically different to a woman (hormones, evolved role etc etc), is that they are driven at a very base level to woman and sex! This is a very powerful thing, and often overrides rational thought and otherwise common-sense! That is why this, and other, cam sites exist. Yep, the temptation to be unfaithful to my wife has lowered in me by coming to this site and watch the hosts' shows. About the fires
I feel really bad for Moscow and all those affected by the fires, but I can't help but wonder: when wildfires and forest fires ravaged California (as they seem to do on a regular basis anymore) was there the same outpouring of sympathy here in the forums? I can't recall seeing any.

Don't you think that you are going a bit too far with you main point that the USA is better equipped to fight fires and deal with the consequences of them? If I were to guess, the main point of your post is probably correct, but it isn't like Americans are immune from the consequences of fire and a hot summer. It just happens to be that a lot of the fires in the USA are not near major population centers so the smoke isn't blowing into the big cities like it is in Moscow, and the fires near heavier populated areas happen to occur near more wealthy areas a lot of the time.

Dogs and cats can actually curl up in a ball when they sleep. It is not necessary to sleep perpendicular to each other, stretched out to the fullest extent possible. I also know that sticking tails straight out and having tongues hanging out on the other end to maximize space is nothing but sarcasm.
For the last time, there is no secret exit from the bathroom! If, by some miracle, I beat you there and manage to get the door shut, it is not necessary to claw, whine, meow, try to turn the knob or get your paw under the edge in an attempt to open the door. I must exit through the same door I entered. Also, I have been using the bathroom for years - canine/feline attendance is not required.
The proper order for kissing is: Kiss me first, then go smell the other dog or cat's butt. I cannot stress this enough.

I feel a same like you Angy. But judge somebody with out knowing her reason is not a nice thing. I dont think they love to do or like to do. Probably they need to do or have to. But i thing they just offering something what THE VIWERS want to see.... SO who want to blame who or whom??
