Better to get an apartment, more room. wifi, and better value than most hotels. The apartment company will even supply food as part of the service.

Arbat is a great place to stay. Arbat itself (the street) is of course ultra touristy but still fun and plenty of free entertainment. Be sure to bargain if you buy anything on the street.
The restaurant with the big cow in front (I forget the name) is a great place to eat. They also feature their own beers.

Surely then they would have no objection to you posting under your real name? The only proviso would be if they didn't want the other forum readers to know you were the one making the posts, but I can see no reason why they should want to do that.

Get her to the USA on a student visa and marry her here. (not a tourist visa). Then apply for a change of status from Student to Permanet Resident. If you marry in Russia you have to return to the USA alone and apply for her to enter. Could take a long time to get the approval. Meanwhile she is boning her old bfs in Mother Russia. Find a junior college. Have her apply and get accepted. Let her study and live with you a few months and voila....get married. EZ breezy.

You cannot change status from tourist to permanent resident due to marriage as that would circumvent the fiancee visa which is another pain in the ass. She would have to return home if you marry her on a tourist visa and apply from her home country for permanent visa.

with work and student visas you need to have your employer or school be willing to sponsor you. you cant just apply for either of them then come to the US to look for a job or enroll in school. as for tourist visas go, its very hard for young, single women with no jobs and no family in the US to get tourist visas because in the eyes of the embassy it looks like they won't come back to their respective countries. the best way to go about it is to emphasize the fact that she has ties to her home country, ie family, work, education. something to show that there is a need to come back to her country.
one more important thing. it really depends on who interviews you for the visa. my wife was turned down 3 times before she got her tourist visa. the times when she was turned down she was interviewed by old men. when a young guy with a more liberal and progressive attitude interviewed her she got the visa right away.

Not true. you can get married on a tourist visa. after that its its the same process in becoming a permanent resident. i should know. thats how my wife did it. she came here on tourist visa. however, she made a few trips here first to show that she had not intentions of staying here. during this time we were planning our marriage and gathering any proof that we were together for years (phone bills, pictures, letters, emails, etc). when we got married we got an immigration lawyer and she immediately applied for a social security card, and permanent residency. about 2-3 months later we had an interview at the immigration office basically showing proof that our marriage was legit. after that they immediately told us that she was approved for permanent residency. then about another 2-3 months later she got her green card. so, yes. u can get it with a tourist visa.

The INS has the option of denying an application for perment residency after a tourist marries a US citizen and they do it more often than not. You were very lucky. I know because several of my friends have married international students in a variety of creative ways and that is not one of them. I work at a university that caters to a large international student body. If you could do it with no problems on a tourist visa then there would be no such thing as a fiancee visa. Why bother if you future wife can fly in, get married and become a permanent resident without all the hassble, wait, expense and paperwork of a fiancee visa. No way Jose. Not sure what INS office you went to but it was a good one.

You would have to apply for an Imigrant Relative Visa (I-130). Given a preference, marriage in the United States is much better from a time and processing basis than marriage in a foreign land. Immigrant Visas can take years to process, versus a few months for a fiancee' visa. It may seem strange that it is easier to bring your fiancee' into America than your wife, but that is simply the way it works.

You can find more descriptions of this than you would ever need on the web site visajourney dot com. You could marry in Russia and get a spousal visa (all the problems others described), get a fiancee visa (about a year realistically, I have heard), or a student visa and change status. All have plusses and minuses and all cost significant money.

Why would there be much cost if someone was here as a student married a citizen? Do you really need a lawyer to fill out paper work? Or are you talking about application fees?
I know a host who came here back in 2004 on a student visa and met and married an 18 year old. As far as I know they were both working minimum wage jobs so I can't imagine they had a lot of money to spend to make her legal.

application fees arent bad, but lawyers fees can be. i highly recommend getting an immigration lawyer. they can make things so easy for you. many times applications get lost in the process. i hate to say it, but our lawyer had some serious connections with the immigration office. my wife and i didn't have to worry about a thing. a friend of ours did not have a lawyer and their processing took much longer. about 6 months to be exact. either way you choose, it can be done. it all depends on how fast and easy you want it to happne, and if you're willing to spend for it.

Any lawyer has "connections" - actually the "connection" is they have done it so many times it's like sleep-walking. They charge the money to fill in the blanks on the boilerplate and make sure the papers are in the right order.
It's cheap as a student because you're only paying for a few courses she might take anyway. And she'll live with you.

Medical exam. Applications fees are very high. She will want a work permit. More money. An advance parole so she can go home during the process. It takes a year or more. I would say you are talking a couple of thousand bucks and that is if you do it yourself. Plus the trips to INS. Days off. Parking. Waiting. Interviews. Horrible experience. But anything is worth it for your little sweeties.

The bottom line is that there is no easy way or short cut to do this. Until you realize that it will take a significant amount of time, investigation and money, you will find the best way to marry a Russian is via the fiancee visa process. Hopefully you and gf will have the patience and fortitude to endure.

You don't go to DMV to learn to drive, but they give you driver's licence if you pass the test. You can get the applications and requirements at the embassy but they don't have time or patience to hold your hand. They won't give you tips on how to improve the odds of getting a visa approval or tell you what will cause denial of application.
You can ask questions of people who have gone through the process like members here and also visit sites that discuss immigration and visa application process. Or as some have said you can pay money and get the help of immigration lawyer.

Sophie Reynolds, 41, from Queanbeyan, was flying aboard SkyWest Airlines from Atlanta to Pittsburgh this week when she asked a flight attendant if she could have a pack of pretzels instead of crackers.
"[The flight attendant] said they didn't have any [pretzels], and I said, 'Fair dinkum,' out of frustration," Reynolds was quoted as saying in the The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Before she knew it a second flight attendant asked her for her passport and copied down her name.
Then, when the flight landed, three uniformed officers greeted her.
"They said, 'You swore at the hostess and there are federal rules against that,"' Reynolds said. "And I said, 'I did not swear at the hostess, I just said 'fair dinkum."'
A spokeswoman for the airline said it was not simply a matter of misunderstanding the language... $%^$#@#

We all sit in front of our computers and secretly say to ourselvesIare not like those other members. I'm better than them. This is a diversion for me. For them it is a compulsion.
